Note: The Edith Butler/Dot Ryan Award is a local award donated by the Tallahassee Hemerocallis Society to honor the service and leadership provided to the club by Edith Butler and Dorothy Ryan. Edith and Dot have both served as club president and in many other capacities, such as show chairman and committee chairs. Edith has served as Regional Vice President of the American Hemerocallis Society for Region 12 (Florida) at which time she produced the Region 12 newsletter. She was honored by the American Hemerocallis Society for her service to Region 12 and was presented a medal signifying the Regional Service Award. Dot has also served at the Regional level, as Regional Publicity Director and newsletter editor.

Dot and Edith were both instrumental in bringing the daylily into the limelight in Tallahassee in the 1980's with the community events and projects they initiated and with the speaking engagements for which they were in high demand. Dot and Edith were the grand dames of daylilies in the 1980's in the Tallahassee Hemerocallis Society, and they mentored the next generation of club members in protocol, society business, judging, and daylily show organization. We admire these ladies and honor them with the first local daylily award ever presented by the Tallahassee Hemerocallis Society.
