Meeting of October 26, 2003
The Tallahassee Hemerocallis Society met on Sunday, October 26, 2003, at the Leon County Agriculture Center. President Angela Cassidy called the meeting to order. Angela opened the meeting by thanking those who brought refreshments and door prizes. She thanked Diana Culver for taking charge of the fundraising event last weekend and those members who worked.
Angela distributed forms for each member to complete with address, phone, etc. information to update the club records and reminded everyone about paying dues.
Opal Howell presented the treasurer's report. Opal announced that the club earned $320 in sales at the recent Horticultural Extravaganza. Two new members also joined the club at that event. The club now has funds totaling $ 3760.55.
Donna Warlick read the minutes of the September 16 meeting. The minutes were approved as read.
President Cassidy read the slate of officers presented by the Nominating Committee. Those individuals were Sharon Agosta for President, Diana Culver for Vice President, Donna Warlick for Treasurer, and Linda Henderson for Secretary. Angela asked for nominations from the floor and Dot Ryan nominated Toma Collinsworth for Treasurer. A motion was made by Mary Ann Van Kleunen and seconded that the slate of officers submitted by the nominating committee be approved by acclamation. President Cassidy explained that with the nomination of a candidate for Treasurer from the floor, the club had to address the position of Treasurer. She would entertain a motion either for election of a Treasurer or a motion to accept the nominations from the nominating committee for President, Vice President, and Secretary only. Mrs. Van Kleunen changed her motion to include only the nominees for President, Vice President and Secretary, the motion was seconded, and they were elected by acclamation. By a separate motion, duly seconded, Toma Collinsworth was elected Treasurer. These officers will assume their duties in January 2004 for two years.
Opal Howell moved that these new officers assume their new positions now. President Cassidy advised that our by-laws require that officers change in January. Opal suggested that our by-laws need revising. Opal advised that the new officers begin working with the out-going officers now to learn as much as possible between now and January. Opal explained that changing the signers on the bank account would require some time. She asked that the minutes of this meeting designate who will be able to sign on the THS account. A motion was made and seconded to add Sharon Agosta and Toma Collinsworth to the signature card on the Tallahassee Hemerocallis Society checking account. The motion carried without objection.
Joe Agosta suggested that we consider Sunday, May 16, 2004, as our next show date. He explained that day is the day after the Bainbridge show. Joe has agreed to be Judges Chairman for the show and needs to have a confirmed show date so he can begin inviting judges. A motion was made and seconded to have the THS show on Sunday, May 16, 2003. The motion carried without objection. Joe informed the group that the spring meeting of Region 12 will be on May 22, 2003, in Lake City. The Region 5 spring meeting will be June 13. Joe will contact the Tallahassee Mall to reserve space on May 16th.
President Cassidy invited incoming president Sharon Agosta to share her ideas for the club in the coming year. Sharon distributed a questionnaire to the members, which would help her develop programs, recruit workers for the show and other club functions. Sharon said she has reserved the Leon County Agriculture Center for meetings on the 4th Sunday of each month, starting at 2:00 PM.
Sharon asked if members would be interested in a potluck dinner/social meeting on Sunday, November 23 at 2:00 PM. Members voiced enthusiasm for the meeting.
Outgoing President Cassidy thanked the members for their support during her term of office and thanked the officers for the work each had done for the club.
A daylily swap game was played, and extra daylilies brought by Ted and Claudette Collins were auctioned off by Ted Collins. Following the auction, the meeting was adjourned.
