Meeting of March 26, 2001
The Tallahassee Hemerocallis Society met on March 26, 2001, at Gray Memorial Methodist Church. President Bill Knight called the meeting to order.
Bill mentioned the show date of May 12 and asked the group about plans for a Friday evening event to entertain the judges. We will have 12 judges. The club voted to take the judges to a restaurant on Friday evening. A luncheon after the show for the judges will be arranged. Other show committees were reviewed. Mary Ann VanKleunen mentioned that she needs clerks. The four panels of judges will require at least 8 clerks.
Members were reminded to each bring 10 fans of daylilies to the show sale. Any member who wishes to sell daylilies in quantity for the sale should contact Betty Winkler. Sellers should label each fan. Opal Howell mentioned that we usually sell about 1500 to 2000 fans at the show.
There was discussion of a meeting before the show which would provide new members some time to learn how to select and prepare a scape for showing. Our April meeting will probably be held on a Saturday morning.
Members who have not paid dues since 1999 will be dropped from the mailing list.
President Knight mentioned the Region 12 Spring meeting in Jacksonville the weekend of May 18. We have invited the Region to meet in Tallahassee in 2002.
Maryzell Roberts mentioned that Faith Baptist Church will sponsor a bus trip to Tim Bellís Garden on May 25, leaving at 7:30 AM. The cost is $12.50. Anyone interested in the trip could call Maryzell.
The speaker for the evening was Mary Ann VanKleunen, THS member, and a past President of the Florida Daffodil Society. Mary Ann shared some history of the Florida Daffodil Society, some growing tips and a list of daffodils, which grow well in the Tallahassee area.
Bill Knight asked if anyone in the club would be interested in serving as a Program Chair to arrange for programs at meetings for the next year.
The meeting was adjourned.
