North Florida's newest American Hemerocallis Display Garden, owned by Jack and Mary Ann Van Kleunen, is situated in Monticello, about 30 miles east of Tallahassee.
The daylily garden consists of 11 beds situated in the middle of a producing pecan grove. Both sides of the 500 foot driveway are lined with camellias and crepe myrtles. The daylily beds are on both sides of the driveway. On each side of the driveway, intermixed with large rectangular beds are 30 foot diameter circular beds with walkways for viewing the blooms. The bed nearest the house attractively combines daylilies with camellias, hydrangeas, and irises. Smaller beds of daffadils and amaryllis provide an early touch of spring before the dayliles come into bloom.
Windmill Daylilies displays almost 750 different cultivars, representing both newer and older introductions from a number of hybridizers, showing a great variety in size, color, and form.
The Van Kleunens invite you to visit their garden during peak bloom season, beginning in mid-April through June.
